Tenerife is the island of eternal spring. Mount Teide, Spain's tallest volcano, dominates a landscape from black sand beaches in the north to golden stretches in the south. Perfect year-round climate, affordable prices and low-cost flights make it a European favourite.
Tenerife offers much more than sun: Teide National Park (UNESCO), colonial villages of La Laguna and La Orotava, whale watching (resident dolphins and whales), ancient laurel forests and genuine Canarian cuisine.
Year-round. A constant 22-28°C. The south is sunnier. European winter is peak season. February for Santa Cruz Carnival (world's second-largest after Rio).
Papas arrugadas con mojo (wrinkly potatoes with red and green sauce), gofio, conejo en salmorejo, lapas (limpets), fresh fish and Tenerife DO wines. Guachinches are local home-style restaurants.
Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos for resorts (south). Puerto de la Cruz for northern charm. Santa Cruz for the capital and Carnival. La Laguna for UNESCO history. Teide for the volcano.
Tenerife has two airports: Tenerife Sur (TFS) for tourism (low-cost flights) and Tenerife Norte (TFN) for domestic connections. TITSA buses connect the island.
